A British consular official has to deal with many emergencies from a lost wallet to the death of a loved one abroad to British citizens in jail in a foreign land. All have to be handled with sensitivity and care. The FCO wanted a series of films to show best practice on a range of 8 different challenges faced by their consular staff around the world.
We pitched a multi-stranded solution, set in British Consuls in Spain, India and Thailand. Each office staffed by a number of staff each of whom would have different challenges to resolve and manage. The budget didn’t quite stretch to flying around the world, so we had to be smart with our production design and locations, and ended up building an Indian village (forced marriage), a Thai prison (drug couriering back-packers) and a nightclub (sexual assault overseas) amongst others all within budget and in and around Old Street.
