When the Home Office decided to upgrade its “New Customs and Immigration Officer Training”, it meant an entire redesign of the three week in-person course.
Part of that redesign was working to introduce drama and documentary elements throughout, so that the delegates were introduced to life on our borders and the types of situations they will face as part of their training and hear from subject matter experts on how to do the role they will eventually have.
Working with the Home Office from the start of the course’s redesign; we were able to develop the video components to elevate the program and map out exactly where videos needed to be in the course.
We worked with subject matter experts, the course trainers and Border Force Officers, as well as visited several UK ports to research how life as an officer on either the immigration desk or in the customs channel is. From this we then created over 80 different dramatic scenes to fit within the training, and also developed 22 different documentaries to be placed into the course. These covered a range of subjects from fake documents and VISA’s, through to gun smuggling and spotting the signs of FGM.
Filming involved casting for over 40 characters, and filming with those actors and over 200 support artists for 25 days of filming at Gatwick Airport, Portsmouth International Port, Eastleigh Airport, St Pancras International and a Crown Court.
