CAGA (the Coalition Against Gambling Advertising) commissioned us to make a follow up to the award-winning promotional film we made for them in 2020 – to help emphasise the pernicious effect of gambling advertising and exposure on young people through the continued sponsorship of football clubs and ancillary football matters.
Targeting parents and other key decision makers, we set our film back in the broom cupboard of 90s TV with the amazing Isy Suttie playing our children’s presenter, a voice-over from Maxine Peake and a wonderful Theo the Bear created by the puppeteer Warwick Brownlow Pike (of CBeebies and Seasame Street).
Recreating the world of a kid’s TV show, with the zany energy and mad cap fun and then crushing that by having gambling advertising and slogans literally invade the children’s entertainment, we wanted the very serious message to be portrayed in a darkly comic way.
