Our client wanted to add a PBIED attack and first aid response interactive exercise to their Security Control Room Operator’s course. They also needed a drama that highlighted how anyone working in an environment that could be attacked by terrorists should know basic first aid and should use it, when safe, to save lives.
Our biggest challenge was to make a currently closed terminal appear like it’s open and busy, and then to make it appear like a Person-Borne Improvised Explosive Device Detection had gone off and damaged it.
Filmed in a closed Heathrow Terminal 4 over three days, we had a team of 32 crew, 12 actors, 25 Stunt & Specialist Support Artists and over 200 Support Artists to dress and fill the terminal.
After rehearsing and filming a pre-explosion “normality” 10 minute sequence (across 22 CCTV cameras), we had 3 hours to redress the terminal to create the post explosion environment. We also put most of our onscreen talent through a quick make up, VFX and wardrobe change to sell the situation.
Whilst filming the CCTV interactive exercise, we also filmed an 8 minute drama and then used the CCTV footage as part of a larger 27 minute drama based inside the relevant Security Control Room and focusing on how the three characters working the control room experience the PBIED on their site.
