NHS England commissioned two case study films to promote the Transforming Care initiative: Louise’s Story, and Peter’s Story. Both films would follow individuals transitioning to living in the community, rather than in hospitals. The films needed to focus on the human wellbeing benefits of these transitions while also informing an internal NHS audience of the planning and actions which makes a move like this possible. This communication has a dual purpose – promoting the initiative to the general public, while also helping stakeholders and NHS commissioners understand the opportunities and successes of identifying suitable individuals.
Both films were shot across two days each with a crew of producer/director and camera operator/sound recordist. This decision was a practical one – it’s essential to shoot with as small a crew as possible when working with people with mental health conditions, and when filming aspects of their lives in an intimate way.
