The Global Health Network works to deliver equity in health research in LMICs (lower middle income countries) – driving equity in both who takes part, and who benefits from health research. They needed a film to summarise their mission and who they are, for use in fundraising contexts, and in raising awareness of the organisation amongst medical institutions and people across the world.
Following an extensive research phase to ensure a deep understanding of TGHN’s work, we embarked on a shoot in Kilifi, Kenya, with a crew of producer/director Jo Gewirtz, DoP Oli Cohen, and local support on the ground. Filming took place across two days at the Kenyan Medical Research Institute, the Kilifi district hospital, and in a rural community called Junju, outside of Kilifi. We interviewed medical researchers of all grades, focussing on the ways The Global Health Network is able to spread knowledge and practises in Kenya, one of its largest hubs. Identifying and working with the best protagonists was key to the success of the film, as well as the ability to work with a small crew in bustling Kilifi.
